Safe Trader

Click here to launch the Safe Trader website.

The Help Direct Safe Trader Scheme is funded by Lancashire County Council and managed by Lancashire Trading Standards Service. The aim of the Scheme is to help the people of Lancashire to find reliable, local traders and support local businesses.

All members of the scheme have agreed to a Code of Practice, showing that they are committed to treating all of their customers honestly and fairly.

What types of traders are on the scheme?

The services available can range from aerial and roofing services to plumbing, building and electrical. A full list of categories is available on the Help Direct Safe Traders website and can be found on the search page.

Bogus Callers and Doorstep Crime

Bogus callers are people who pretend to be someone they're not so that they can get into your house. They might pretend to be from the water, electricity or gas-board, council workers or police officers and although Lancashire is a pretty safe place, it is important that you take care over who you let in.

Statistics show that around 35 bogus caller crimes are committed every day, but it is believed that this might only be 10% of the total number of incidents that actually take place as victims are often too embarrassed to come forward.

If you would like more information on Bogus Callers and how to protect yourself, you can visit the Lancashire Constabulary Bogus Callers information page.

Limitations of the Scheme

Lancashire County Council Trading Standards Service makes every effort to ensure that members comply with the law. However, we cannot guarantee the financial standing of members, their health and safety procedures, or that their work will never give rise to complaint. By using a member firm, consumers can minimise the risk of dispute and be assured that if there are problems we will assist in resolving them.
